Gauging points KIP PVEK are designed to control the parameters of the electro-chemical protection (EHZ), commute separate elements of the EHZ system, define routes for pipelines and other metal underground constructions and communications (further defined as underground communications) in accordance with GOST R 51164 and are installed alongside routes of underground communications:

  • On straight areas within visual range, but no further apart than 500-1000 metres (depending on the level of corrosion hazard in the area of underground communications);
  • In the areas where the underground communication routes turn;
  • On both sides of the intersection of underground communication routes with artificial and natural barriers (roads, rivers etc.);
  • In places where the drain cable is connected to underground communications;
  • In places where insulating flanges have been installed;
  • In places of intersection with other over-ground and underground communication routes.

KIP PVEK is a trihedral or tetrahedral rack made of inflammable atmosphere-resistant plastic with information labelling complete with a control panel with terminal clamps and terminals.

Control panel is located in the upper part of the rack and is closed with a lid that has a lock. Control panel has boards with power and test terminals for commuting the electro-chemical protection means and connecting the gauging equipment.

Terminals, terminal clamps and test sockets from KIP PVEK are made from colour metals or steel with a protective cover. Clamp construction ensures reliable electric mounting of cables and wires without the special core ends:

  • For the measuring terminals – with a cross-section up to 6 mm2;
  • For the power terminals – with a cross-section up to 35 mm2.

There are four different KIP PVEK models:

The devices are manufactured in a climatic rendition U1, HL1 category of placement 1, in accordance with GOST 15150-69 and are purpose-built for outdoors installation.

KIP PVEK – is a universal device that can be used not only as a gauging column with a set of clams but also as a multifunctional unified intellectual technologically-systematic product with a modern and aesthetic design.

KIP PVEK fully complies with Gazprom’s ‘Temporary technical demands for the gauging points of the electro-chemical protection of pipelines’  of December 29th 2009 and have been listed in the Register of electro-chemical protection equipment allowed for utilization at Gazprom.

KIP PVEK Type-1 is purpose-built for installation on the linear part of the pipeline and is a trihedral rack (a triangle with a cross-section measuring 180±5, mm) made of non-flammable atmosphere-resistant plastic with information labelling and control panel with terminals and terminal clamps. Optionally, a set may include a kilometre sign.

Control panel is situated in the upper part of the rack and is closed with a lid that has a lock. Control panel has boards with power and measuring terminals for commuting electro-chemical protection means and connecting the measuring equipment.

Terminals, terminal clamps and test sockets KIP PVEK Type-1 are made of colour metals or steel with a protective cover. Clamp construction ensures reliable electric mounting of cables and wires without the special core ends:

Optionally, a set may include a kilometre sign.

Control panel is situated in the upper part of the rack and is closed with a lid that has a lock. Control panel has boards with power and measuring terminals for commuting electro-chemical protection means and connecting the measuring equipment. The rack also has a portal for additional equipment with a lid that has a lock.

Gas leak control device (UKG-1M) is purpose-built to detect any flammable gases and flammable liquid steams above the medium and low-pressure polyethylene pipelines in the air.

Measurements are carried out with a portable gas analyzer.

Joint protection block (BSZ) is purpose-built to work in the underground communications joint anti-corrosion protection schemes. BSZ allows to organize a joint protection of two and more underground communications situated in a close proximity (intersecting or parallel threads of underground communications).

BSZ allows to regulate the protective current of parallel (or intersecting) communications in relation to the underground construction connected to the  cathodic protection station (SKZ).
KIP PVEK with a built-in BSZ is installed:

  • In places of parallel laying of communications protected from one cathodic protection station (SKZ) to regulate the protective current that goes into every underground construction;
  • In places of intersection or в местах пересечения или rapprochement of underground communications that have their own electro-chemical protection systems to even out the underground construction potentials

KIP PVEK with BSZ is a plastic rack – a triangle with a cross-section measuring 180±5, mm (rendition version 1) or a square with a cross-section measuring 200±10, mm (rendition version 2) – with information labelling and control panel with terminal clamps, electro-chemical protection parameter measuring terminals and a joint protection block.

Joint protection block is installed inside the rack. BSZ board is made of fiberglass with elements of electric circuit on it.

Protective earthing device (UZZ) is purpose-built to protect pipelines from harmful effects of power lines and from the storm, to lower the contact voltage and to carry out electro-chemical protection parameters control.

UZZ-L to prevent harmful effects of power lines situated parallel with the pipelines.

UZZ-G – to protect the pipelines from the storm and to lower the contact voltage.

KIP PVEK with UZZ is a rack made of non-flammable atmosphere-resistant plastic – a square with a cross-section measuring 200±10mm (ТУ 4318-002-87598003-2010) or a triangle with a cross-section measuring 180±5, mm (ТУ 4318-004-87598003-2009) – with information labelling and control panel with terminals and terminal clamps for measuring electro-chemical protection parameters and complete with the protective earthing device.

Earthing is made of a zinc-covered steel strip (4x40mm). Necessary earthing length is constructed from parts of 2-3 metre long strips, which are connected to each other with M8 bolts and nuts.

The regulating element is the gas-filled arrester and varistor.

Protective earthing device is installed inside the rack. UZZ board is made of fiberglass with electric circuit elements installed on it.

PVEK kilometre sign is mounted on the upper part of the KIP rack and its key function is to designate the pipeline route, which allows to discover KIP on the ground, as well as off the airplane and helicopter.

To improve the visual search of the pipeline route from the air the kilometre sign’s lid is attached under a slight angle towards the horizon (no more than 30 degrees).

The devices may be used on the steel and polymer pipelines with a diameter of 57 – 500mm and 50 – 700mm, respectively. Due to their high dielectric properties the polymer composite rings ensure a safe screening in the ‘casing-pipeline-earth’ system.

PVEK ‘Central-1’ Supportive-directive rings are purpose-built to bring the steel and polymer pipes in casings in underground (underwater) passages through roads and rail tracks, natural obstacles, pipelines and other pipelines.

To increase the friction of slipping between the ring and the pipe, as well as for a more accurate regulation of the required ring diameter, 10-33mm wide rubber gaskets are installed between device segments.

Simplicity of its construction significantly reduces the mounting of the ring onto the pipe and simplifies the technological process of bringing the pipe through the casing.

The amount of effort required to bring the pipes through is significantly reduced with the use of PVEK ‘Central’ supportive-directive rings in comparison with the existing methods, which results in a significant reduction of time required for the construction and reconstruction.
